BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - CAL FIRE is warning people to not be alarmed about smoke coming from a control burn in Butte County.

Lassen National Forest will be conducting a 300-acre control burn five miles north of Stirling City. CAL FIRE is letting people know that there will be smoke visible from all areas in Butte county.

"The Minnow Prescribed Burn will reduce surface fuels and future wildfire severity in previously logged units. Contributing to a network of fuel reduction units in the vicinity of Brown's Ravine. This network forms an infrastructure of thinned forest areas that can increase the likelihood of success during future suppression strategies while providing for firefighter and public safety. The project is also designed to enhance fire-resilient species such as pine and oak, which will contribute to the resiliency of this forest system in future wildfire events." Lassen National Forest said.

"Due to smoke and the visual site of the column from adjacent communities affected by last year's Camp Fire, an elevated public information campaign has been initiated. We will continually share information about this project until its completion. We will also provide similar information-sharing opportunities about other fuel treatment projects in the forest." said Deb Bumpus Forest Supervisor, Lassen National Forest.

The goal of the controlled burn is to reduce possible wildfire fuels before high fire danger on Wednesday and Thursday.

The burn is expected to last all day on Tuesday.
