Southbound lanes of I-5 reopen at South Avenue after flooding

The southbound lanes of I-5 at South Avenue have reopened after flooding.

UPDATE 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019 - The southbound lanes of I-5 at South Avenue have reopened as flooding has receded. 

The road has been closed since around 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

UPDATE 4:27 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019 - The southbound lanes of I-5 at South Avenue are closed due to extensive flooding in the area. 

California Highway Patrol says that they are waiting for flood waters to recede before opening the road. 

There is a detour available at the on and off ramps of South Avenue to avoid the flood waters.

UPDATE 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019 - All northbound lanes are now open on I-5 at South Avenue as flood waters have receded. 

The southbound lanes remain closed at this time with a detour in place.

UPDATE 9:22 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019 - The northbound lanes of I-5 are now closed at South Avenue in Tehama County due to flooding. There is a detour available on the South Avenue on and off ramps.

The southbound I-5 lanes also remain blocked at South Avenue.

TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. - Both southbound lanes are blocked on I-5 at South Avenue due to flooding.

The flooding was reported by Caltrans District 2 at 8:02 a.m. 

The California Highway Patrol says that the flooding is between the on-ramp and off-ramp of South Avenue. Many motorists are exiting the freeway where the flooding is and getting back on the highway. 

CHP advises motorists to expect delays.
