CHICO, Calif. - National Fire Prevention Week is underway and local kids got an important lesson in fire safety from some of Chico's firefighters.

Kids got to step inside a fire truck and see an interactive fire safety exhibit at the Children's Museum.

"Not every hero wears a cape, plan and practice your escape! So we have our fire-safe house out here emphasizing that message," said Division Chief Jesse Alexander on the exhibit.

Chico firefighters taught kids how to safely evacuate a building and how to be careful around a burning stove.

"If you try to get out and the door is hot, you climb out of the window," said Audrey Colburn of what she learned.
