SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. – A Shasta County man is behind bars after authorities say he struck his wife with a beer bottle early Wednesday morning.

Early Wednesday morning a woman called 911 reporting her husband had struck her in the head with a beer bottle at 2017 Elizabeth Avenue in the City of Shasta Lake.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim and suspect, Levi Sherley, in front of the house. The victim was bleeding from a gash on her head and told deputies she had been knocked unconscious.

Deputies said Levi immediately ran back into the house where their three children were inside sleeping. Levi closed and locked the front door denying access to law enforcement. Deputies said they made several verbal announcements at the front door telling Levi to come out of the home.

Levi was found lying face down, with his hands tucked under him, on the living room floor. When he failed to comply, Deputy O’hara said he used his K-9 partner Ace to apprehend Levi. Levi was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance then booked into the Shasta County Jail.

Authorities said all the children inside the house were unharmed.
