Southbound I-5 open in Siskiyou County, northbound reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Caltrans has reopened southbound I-5 to vehicle metering at Edgewood in Siskiyou County. Northbound is expected to reopen at Fawndale at 5:30 p.m. according to Caltrans District 2.

UPDATE 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 - Caltrans District 2 says that northbound I-5 will reopen at Fawndale at 5:30 p.m. 

Traffic will be metered. 


UPDATE 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 - Caltrans has reopened southbound I-5 to vehicle metering at Edgewood, north of Weed in Siskiyou County. 

They say they are holding vehicles and letting a certain number go at a time. Caltrans says to expect delays. No chain controls are in effect at this point. 

Northbound I-5 is still closed as Caltrans is working to clear the roadway. 


UPDATE 12:14 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 - I-5 is expected to reopen at the Fawndale Exit north of Redding all the way to the Oregon Border after 3 p.m. on Wednesday according to Lupita Franco of Caltrans District 2.

More than 43,000 customers remain without power in PG&E's North Valley Division. The division is comprised of Butte, Glenn, Shasta, Tehama and Plumas Counties.

UPDATE 9:11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 - PG&E is reporting that there are currently 16,700 customers without power in Shasta County due to winter weather conditions.

The utility says that the outages started occurring Tuesday night around 11 p.m. with a big outage in Redding around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Outages have also been reported in the Anderson and the Big Bend areas.

Additionally, I-5 has a hard closure just north of Redding at the Fawndale Exit. 

California Highway Patrol has also confirmed that there are some downed power lines in the area near Highway 44 and I-5 and encourage motorists to avoid that area.

REDDING, Calif.  Interstate 5 is covered in ice and snow prompting the CHP to close the freeway down at Fawndale Road north of Redding.  All traffic is being stopped.  There is no word on when the freeway will reopen.
