YUBA CITY, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a fatal crash and resulting fire that caused the death of the unidentified driver on Sunday on Highway 70 southbound, just south of Feather River Boulevard.
The CHP reports that the 2013 GMC truck was driven off of the west side of the highway, eventually colliding with a guard rail, going down an embankment, and catching on fire. The driver was unable to exit the vehicle.
The truck was so badly burned that they are having difficulties identifying the driver to determine an identity and a place of residence. They do believe the person was 36 years old. The Coroner's Office and the CHP are working together to identify the driver.
According to the CHP, alcohol and/or drugs may have played a role in this collision.
