CHICO, Calif. – The major north artery through Chico is back open after a head-on collision on Highway 99, five miles north of Garner Lane.
Police said a blue sports sedan was traveling northbound and a brown Ford pickup was traveling southbound when the pickup drifted to the left and collided head-on with the other car.
Action News Now has learned the individual in the brown pickup was airlifted to the hospital with moderate to major injuries. The person in the blue sedan was transported in an ambulance.
Both were trapped in their cars upon impact and crews had to put them on stretchers to transport them.
Police told Action News Now both parties were responsive and alert after the crash, they are expected to survive.
The collision caused a lot of debris to scatter all over the highway. Crews will remain on scene to finish cleaning any remaining debris.
