Home Protection Tips for the Holiday Weekend

Tips to keep your home safe if you plan to head of town this holiday weekend

The summer season is a fun time for families to get out of town, but unfortunately, it's also a time that criminals prey on empty homes.

If you plan on hitting the road this holiday weekend, here's some tips from State Farm to keep this in mind before you go.

If you own it, activate your home security system. Put a sign on you front step or window displaying that you have it. Keep your security camera notifications on, to alert you (via smartphone) if there is any activity at your home.

Don't share your travel plans on social media ahead of time, or while you're on vacation.

Let a trustworthy neighbor know your plans, so they can keep an eye on your home while you're away.

Set timers on a few lights inside and outside of your home. These can turn on automatically each night, giving a burglar the illusion that someone is inside.

Don't give a thief a reason to be interested in your property. Safely store appealing yard toys, like kiddie pools and yard games, inside.

Double check that doors, windows, and screen doors are locked. There are also locks for the inside of garage doors that can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Fire danger remains high over much of California on this Monday, and that will continue through Tuesday afternoon. Thankfully, most of the strongest wind has passed, and the wind will weaken through midweek.
