UPDATE 7:17 a.m., Friday, April 16, 2020 - Action News Now has learned new details about a Tuesday traffic stop that shut down southbound lanes of Highway 99 in Chico.
The traffic stop originated as a shoplifting case at the Chico 'Bevmo' store on East 20th Street.
Police say, Joseph Huston, Marshuata Daniels, and Terkashas McClain from Sacramento took booze from the store, got in a car, and sped off.
It only took a few minutes for officers to find them at Highway 99 - where they pulled them over and handcuffed them.
When cops searched the getaway car the suspects had over 100 bottles of alcohol, according to Chico police.
An investigation revealed that the suspects traveled from Sacramento to different cities with the intent to steal alcohol from retail locations.
After the thefts, the suspects were going to return to Sacramento and sell the alcohol, police say.
CHICO, Calif. - Chico police briefly shut down Highway 99 Tuesday night.
More than a dozen officers were on the scene where an SUV heading southbound was stopped, just before the East 20th St exit around 7:30 p.m.
Action News Now is working to learn more. Chico police did confirm there was a robbery or theft.
Officers are not saying where the robbery or theft happened, but there was a massive assortment of bottles of alcohol sitting on the ground, apparently removed from the suspect's SUV.
At one point, a woman in handcuffs was briefly removed from a patrol car.
