TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. - A 28-year-old man from Red Bluff died in a crash on Highway 99 near Vina early Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at 12:18 a.m. on Highway 99 East just south of South Ave.

The 28-year-old from Red Bluff was driving the wrong way in the southbound lane and crashed into a vehicle traveling southbound.

The driver in the southbound car, 60-year-old Pedro Macias Jr., could not avoid the crash and was taken to Enloe Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The man was driving a Dodge truck that came to rest on its wheels facing north and blocking the northbound lane.

Macias’ vehicle was facing the south direction and was blocking the number two south lane.

Traffic was diverted while crews worked to clear the area.

It is unknown if drugs and alcohol were a factor in the crash and the crash is under investigation.
