Highway 99 north of Chico back open after big rig crash

Highway 99 north of Chico has reopened in both directions after a crash involving a semi-truck early Tuesday morning.

UPDATE: 10:07 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 - Highway 99 north of Chico has reopened in both directions after a crash involving a semi-truck early Tuesday morning.

A sergeant with the CHP told Action News Now the crash happened around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. The tractor was going north on Highway 99, followed by the big rig. The sergeant said the big rig driver may not have seen the tractor, pushing it off the road and forcing the big rig on its side.   

Both drivers have been taken to the hospital. CHP estimates the highway will be closed for another four hours.

CHICO, Calif. - Highway 99 north of Chico is shut down in both directions after a crash involving a semi-truck and a tractor early Tuesday morning. CHP dispatch says officers are on scene diverting traffic from Anita Road to Nord Cana Highway. Dispatch also says the crash involves hazardous materials.

Cal Trans reported the closure just before 3:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. There is no estimated time of reopening.

The first of two storms moved over northern California late last night and this morning, but our weather has quieted for now. More rain showers will fall Saturday, but heavier rain and snow with stronger wind arrives Sunday.
