Highway 44 back open after crash sends one to hospital

CalTrans says Highway 44 is back open after a multi-vehicle crash sent one person to the hospital for major injuries, according to CHP.

UPDATE: June 1, 5:15 p.m. - CalTrans sent out a tweet that as of 4:29 traffic was returning to normal following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 44, east of Dersch Road.

REDDING, Calif. - Highway 44 was blocked off just east of Dersch Road due to a traffic collision, according to CalTrans. 

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Greg Ross said a Nissan was traveling westbound on Highway 44 and was approaching a van.

The Nissan then veered into the eastbound lane where it sideswiped a big rig and caused it to roll over. The Nissan then collided with a white Chevy pickup truck. 

The driver of the Nissan had major injuries and was taken to the hospital by helicopter. 

The drivers of the other vehicles involved had minor injuries. 

CalTrans sent a tweet out at 4:29 p.m. saying the highway is reopened and traffic is returning to normal.
