Highway 299 to reopen Thursday with intervals, one-way traffic

Highway 299 will reopen but will be opening at certain times between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Caltrans is opening parts of Highway 299 for traffic but it will be one-way traffic with flagging operations.

The opening will begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday for through traffic and residents and Caltrans said it will have a piloted escort every three hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The opening times will be at 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and access to the closed areas from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. will be for residents and emergency personnel only.

Highway 299 is currently a construction zone and people traveling through the area should expect delays at any time or any point in the closure.

Caltrans said the opening times can change at any time.

As of Wednesday, the highway is closed due to the Monument Fire at post mile 7.4 near Burnt Ranch at Berg Rd. for eastbound traffic and at Post Mile 36.3 just west of Helena for westbound traffic.

It was nice to receive some rain and mountain snow around northern California late Sunday and early Monday. Thankfully a change to our overall weather pattern is underway, and many more chances of rain are coming!
