MARYSVILLE, Calif. – A head-on collision on Hammonton Smartville Rd. East of Happy Way resulted in injuries to two adults and the death of an unborn infant Tuesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Anthony Smith, 44, of Marysville, was driving eastbound in his 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe at around 45 miles per hour. Smith, who is suspected of having been under the influence of drugs, allowed his vehicle to veer into the westbound lane, which caused his Tahoe to collide head-on with a 2005 Toyota 4Runner.
The driver of the Toyota 4Runner was 31-year-old Robbi Megazzi of Marysville.
Megazzi was pregnant, and her unborn child received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Rideout Medical Center, according to the CHP. Megazzi received internal bleeding in her chest from the crash.
Smith received a fracture to his right leg and was arrested by CHP for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. The collision is under investigation.
