CHICO, Calif. - Shear Creativity Salon for Men and Women is closing permanently due to COVID-19. The Salon is located in Chico on Salem and W. First.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said owner Lailani Mossett. That was my baby. We did everything in there and it was great to watch it become just a really awesome business.”
Lailani worked for seven years to own her own business. It was closed down in 31/2 years.
“It just happened very rapidly and I just wasn’t prepared to come home and make this decision and it was rough,” said Lailani.
She says she came back from her wedding when the virus hit and started to apply for assistance.
“There’s a lot of grants out there that I wanted to apply to, but because I am a business owner they weren’t actually allowing me to apply to them because they thought I was going to get loan assistance from other stuff, but I didn’t,” said Lailani.
The owner started to dip into her savings, but knew the money would run out soon. So, she decided to close down shop. She says she had to let go of four booth renters.
“Not enough people are out there backing us up and realizing how much it’s affecting this type of industry,” said Lailani. “This is a very stressful time for them and they’re in the same boat as me.”
She says she hopes to reunite with her clients and employees at another location when this is all over. She doesn’t have a place in mind or a timeline.
“There’s a lot of people telling [my former clients] not to do [their own] hair. I am definitely not condoning it, but if they do it, I am here for you when we come back and we’ll have some fun stories to talk about,” said Lailani.
