10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 9, 2021 - The final report from the CAL FIRE Butte Unit on the Gunnison Fire said they discovered two damaged outbuildings and three small ones that were destroyed. No homes were damaged or destroyed.
Three helicopters and two air tankers assisted the 15 engine and truck companies fighting the fire. There was also use of an air attack plane. In all, 57 people were involved in the fight.
The fire started in the 4000 block of Gunnison Way. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
10:20 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - Cal Fire says the Gunnison Fire is now 100% contained.
The dry and windy conditions pushed the fire to nearly 550 acres. 2 outbuildings were damaged and 3 small outbuildings were building were destroyed.
Fire crews will patrol the burned area in the morning to make sure no sparks or hotspots reignite during the red flag warning conditions.
6:45 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - The Gunnison Fire has been mapped by CAL FIRE and the acreage has been revised to 549 acres. The grass fire has been 60% contained at this time. All air resources have been released.
5:50 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - All evacuation orders have been lifted for the Gunnison Fire.
Update 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - The Gunnison Fire is 40% contained says CAL FIRE. No homes were damaged or destroyed, but one outbuilding was damaged.
The evacuation order has been lifted for Munjar Road, west of Coyote Song Road.
Coyote Song Road and roads east of Coyote Song Road remain under an evacuation order according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
Update 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - CAL FIRE has just confirmed that forward progress has stopped on the Gunnison Fire. It is 350 acres in size.
Update 3:29 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - Butte County Sheriff's Office is now evacuating all of Munjar Rd and all roads off Munjar Rd due to the Gunnison Fire.
Update 3:29 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - According to the CAL FIRE Butte Unit the Garrison Fire has grown to 200 acres.
Update 2:59 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - So far the Gunnison Fire has burned 70 acres of grass. See below for evacuation orders.
Update 2:45 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 - Action News Now meteorologist Bryan Ramsey said the winds are impacting the Gunnison Fire spread. North-northeast winds are moving at speeds of 25-35 mph. This is pushing the fire south toward Keefer Road from the north-northeast.
CHICO, Calif. - The Gunnison Fire is burning near Trinidad Drive and Gunnison Way north of Chico on the east side of Highway 99.
As of 2:30 p.m. CAL FIRE said 40 acres have burned.
The Butte County Sheriff's Office is working on evacuation orders. So far it has been confirmed that residents from Trinidad Drive, Denver Lane, and Gunnison have been evacuated.
