GRIDLEY, Calif. – Cal Fire law enforcement said they arrested a transient on suspicion of arson in the Gridley area.

37-year-old Jose Manuel Santiagogomez was arrested on suspicion of arson for setting multiple fires to grass-covered lands in Gridley.

Cal Fire said they received an interagency communication form the Gridley Police Department stating they had detained Santiagogomez for unrelated charges. He was wanted by Cal Fire for questioning regarding several suspicious fires, according to officers.

After an interview, Santiagogomez was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for arson to forested lands during a declared emergency. His bail is set at $325,000.

Showers are tapering off early Tuesday, and we're left with areas of dense fog for your Tuesday morning commute. We'll have clearing skies and warmer temperatures ahead for your Tuesday afternoon, but the next wet system will arrive on Wednesday. Some showers will linger Thursday, but we'll dry and and become chilly late this week. A substantial wet system will then bring heavy rain and snow to our region from Sunday through at least the start of next week.
