Body of missing Gridley man found in Thermalito Forebay

Deputies said a missing man's body was found in the water at the Thermalito Forebay in Oroville Sunday.

UPDATE: 2:15 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2020 – Deputies said a missing man's body was found in the water at the Thermalito Forebay in Oroville Sunday.

Investigators said Robert Voss's family reported him missing when he did not return home from running errands on June 25. Voss's children found his car miles away at Oroville's Forebay Aquatic Center that same day.

Four days later, his body was located in the water just off the shoreline of the Oroville Aquatic Center, according to the Gridley Police.

Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a family member of Voss’ was walking the trails of the Forebay searching for him. While walking, the family member said he saw what he believed to be a body floating in the water.

The family member entered the water, attempting to bring the body to shore, but was unsuccessful. State Parks and Recreation Officers responded to the scene and recovered the body of Robert Voss, who was identified by family on the scene.

The cause of death is unknown and the case is still active and ongoing.

GRIDLEY, Calif. - Gridley Police are looking for a man who they say did not return home from running errands on June 25 and his car was found miles away at Oroville's Forebay Aquatic Center.

Police say around 11 p.m. on Thursday, they learned 68-year-old Robert Voss had not returned home after leaving his home at 7:30 a.m. that morning.

Voss had missed a work meeting and was not answering family calls. Police say Voss seemed upset when he left his house.

Gridley Police say they told other agencies they were looking for Voss and called the surrounding hospitals.

Just after midnight on Friday, Voss's children found his car at the Forebay Aquatic Center in Oroville but he was not with the car. State Parks officers met with the children and began searching the area.

Officials say they found a day pass and know Voss parked his car at the Aquatic Center on Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Gridley Police say they do have a detective on the case.

Voss is described as a white, male adult with grey hair and glasses He was last seen wearing athletic shoes and blue jeans. The vehicle he was driving was a silver Honda Civic, bearing California license plate 5HWJ449.
