UPDATE: 9:07 a.m. Tuesday, May 12 - Firefighters received a call around 6 p.m. Monday with reports of smoke and trees on fire off of Liberty Road and Highway 99 in Gridley.
It took firefighters about an hour to put out the flames.
“It was very hard to control initially, because of the tire fire but once we got enough resources here we were able to control that fire,” Chief John Gaddie said.
Cal Fire is calling it the Liberty Fire. Fire Captain John Gaddie said this scene did not require any evacuations. No structures were damaged.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
GRIDLEY, Calif. - Cal Fire is responding to a vehicle storage yard fire in Gridley.
The so-called 'Liberty Fire' is located at 23 Independence Place, just off Highway 99. The fire started at about 6 p.m. on Monday, May 11.
Cal Fire Spokesman John Gaddie says several cars and tires were on fire. The fire also put out a lot of black smoke in the area.
There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.
