ORLAND, Calif. - Glenn County distributed over 100 COVID-19 vaccines to at-risk residents and health care workers Wednesday.
At-risk residents received the COVID-19 vaccine as a part of Glenn County Public Health's vaccine rollout plan.
"I was looking forward to this. Everybody was looking forward to it, they all were eager to get started on this," said Joetta Wigdahl, a West Haven Senior Living resident. "This helps start to end it, that's what it's for."
Glenn County is in phase one-A of vaccine distribution, which means health care personnel and residents of nursing living facilities can get vaccinated.
"It feels good to be one of the first ones," said Wigdahl after getting the vaccine herself. "If I told anybody they were a little bit jealous that they weren't getting it too."
"This is an important day for us because we believe this is the beginning of the end of the pandemic as far as it affects our organization, our people, especially our residents," said Executive Director of West Haven Senior Living, Wade Elliott. "We think not spreading it among our staff and not spreading it among our people, that's a very important step for us."
Twelve residents of the West Haven Senior Living Center received their first dose of the vaccine Wednesday, along with several staff members.
"Our average age in admissions is 88 years, which means that they're among the highest risk population," said Elliott before getting the vaccine himself. "We are looking forward to perhaps as early as the end of January that we have everybody protected."
"We're lucky in Glenn County that the vaccine is here," said Laura Medina, Glenn County Public Health Program Manager. "Everyone is encouraged to take the vaccine once available."
"I think my husband is very happy," said Wigdahl. "My kids will be too when I tell them."
These were the final doses of Glenn County's first shipment of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine. Next week the county will be distributing the Moderna vaccine.
Glenn County received 255 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 200 doses of the Moderna vaccine.
