Getting cooler with cloudy skies today

A modest cooling trend will push temperatures back to around average today, but the cooling trend won't last long.

Slightly cooler temperatures, partly cloudy skies in the mountains, and a slight chance of mountain showers are ahead for your Tuesday. Temperatures cooling down will be the most likely, and widespread change of pace on the way for today. There is still a slight potential for showers holding together long enough to brush through the Northern Mountains this afternoon and evening, but models are showing that is not very likely. Skies are starting out clear for your Tuesday morning, but clouds are expected to return to most areas in some form today. Partly cloudy skies will be ahead for the mountains this afternoon, and mostly sunny skies are expected in the valley. Temperatures have dipped into the 40's to 50's in the valley and foothills overnight, and into the 20's to 30's in the mountains again this morning. Winds are out of the East to around 10mph early today and will be out of the Southeast to 10mph this afternoon. Humidity is projected to stay higher than yesterday, but will still fall into the 20 to 35 percent range this afternoon. High temperatures will top out in the mid to high 70's in the valley, 60's to 70's in the foothills, and into the mid 60's to mid 70's in the mountains later today.

Temperatures and sky conditions are expected to stay in the same range for Wednesday. Looks like the threat of showers will be staying to the North on Wednesday and will then shift off to the East by Thursday. Another warming trend is set to take hold of Northern California on Thursday and will ramp up on Friday. Valley areas will climb back into the low to mid 80's on Thursday and will then continue to climb into the mid to high 80's on Friday. Skies will be sunny to mostly sunny to end your work week. Temperatures will cool by a couple of degrees heading into the weekend, but will still be in the low to mid 80's in the valley. Mountain areas will mostly top out in the 70's during the weekend. Another cooling trend looks likely for the start of next week, but the latest models are keeping showers to our North.

We head into the holiday weekend on a slightly cooler than average note, but that will change quickly on the 4th of July and on Sunday with more heat and stronger breezes coming.
