CHICO, Calif. - The theme for this year's Chico Parade of Lights is "Exploration: from Deep Sea to Deep Space... and Everything in Between."

The 29th annual event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7:00 p.m. in downtown Chico.

Pre-parade events start at 5:30 p.m. They include bed and tricycle races, aces, wheelchair rugby, a handcycle challenge, and salsa, ballroom and belly dancing.

Brent Largent, the parade organizer, spoke with Action News Now anchor Linda Watkins-Bennett about the event.

He said there will be a live band performing in the downtown plaza during the event. The group is called Smokey the Groove. They hail from Chico and play funky music that is good for family fun.

The hometown parade includes 80-90 floats, groups and marching bands. The parade starts at 7 p.m.

Action News Now anchor Debbie Cobb will be an emcee at the parade this year.

Thankfully, the wind is cooperating much better today in northern California. Our weather is still quite hot for this time of year and very dry. There is plenty of haze and smoke from the Fawn Fire overhead, and it isn't leaving yet.
