CHICO, Calif. - A owner of a local barbershop in Chico is facing charges of forcible rape and rape by intoxication appeared in court on Wednesday, Butte County District Attorney said.
51-year-old Anthony Eidem, the owner of the Gearhead Barbershop, was accused of forcible rape and rape of an intoxicated woman for an alleged assault that occurred on October 25, 2019, in Chico.
Judge Jesus Rodriguez found enough sufficient evidence to proceed to trial in the case against Eidem.
Evidence presented at the preliminary hearing found Eidem’s DNA on the victim, strangulation bruising on the victim’s neck and a video on Eidem’s social media he recorded on the night of the rape, said Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey in a news release. The video showed the victim crawling due to her intoxicated state.
Judge Rodriguez scheduled Eidem’s case for arraignment and a jury trial setting on May 12.
Eidem’s bail was set at $130,000 but remains out of custody as he posted bail when first arrested.
