Gas leak forced evacuations near Chico's East Ave. Safeway

The Chico Police Department said it is evacuating people in the area of the East Ave. Safeway due to a gas leak.

CHICO, Calif. - An excavator hit a gas line behind the Safeway on East Ave. in Chico and forced evacuations Friday, according to Chico Police Department.

The Chico Police Department said at 3:45 p.m. that all evacuations were lifted and the gas leak was stopped. 

Pacific Gas and Electric clamped the ruptured gas line.

Police said people within a 500-foot radius around the gas line were being evacuated and everyone in the stop mall and residential structures to the north was evacuated.
