GRIDLEY, Calif. - A vehicle crashed into a tree on the 1400 block of Highway 99 on Friday, March 26, Gridley Police said.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a Honda Civic in the front yard of a trailer lot where it crashed head-on into a tree.

Officers said the single occupant of the vehicle was found unconscious and sustained physical injuries.

First Responders removed the driver from the vehicle and transported him to Orchard Hospital for treatment.

No residents or bystanders were injured and the residents of the trailer were not home at the time of the accident.

One witness said they saw the driver slumped over his seat while traveling northbound on Highway 99. The witness then saw the driver cross all southbound lanes and leave the roadway crashing into a fence before coming to a rest after hitting a tree.

Gridley Police department said the driver died in the hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
