It was a beautiful day Saturday in Chico and what better way to enjoy it than to sing gospel choir songs.

The Celebration Gospel Choir of Chico offered a free gospel music workshop to the North State community.

No age, cultural background or musical experience was required.

This is the first year the gospel choir has done something like this and the reason?

Co-director Pedro Douglas says bottom line there's simply a need.

We’re talking about the history of the sacred music in the African American church. and we will go on a journey. We will talk about some of our spirituals and then some of our gospels,” Douglas said.

If you missed out on Saturday's class, but are interested in learning, the choir meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Linden Street in Chico.

We're closing out the month of November in a pleasant way in northern California Tuesday. We'll have some gusty wind tonight and early Wednesday, but December will begin with warmer and drier than average weather.
