WHISKEYTOWN, Calif -  Residents across the North State headed out to Whiskeytown on Wednesday for some Fourth of July fun in the sun.

Many say because the holiday landed in the middle of the week it was perfect because the lake wasn't so crowded.

"I am not a fan of crowds so yeah because we came here early we got parking spaces and then will just paddle out and it won't be a lot of people that's really made my thing is i want to avoid the mass," said Audrey Delong.

But for others who spoke with Action News Now it's a family tradition.

"Since my kids were little we come out launch the boat since they were little they are in their 20s and 30s now," said Pamela.

Many families did head out on their boats to catch some sun before watching the night time fireworks, but rangers at the park also headed out early to make sure everyone out on a boat was safe with a life jacket.

"All boats all power boats all sail boats all paddle boards and all kayaks are required of have life jackets for every person out on the boat," said Chief Park Ranger Dave Keitner.

While Action News Now was out there, we noticed everyone was being safe, enjoying the gorgeous day and everyone we spoke with had one thought on their minds.

"Happy Fourth of July."

"Happy Fourth of July."

"Happy Birthday America."
