PARADISE, Calif. - The Town of Paradise could soon be getting a new fire station.
On Tuesday, the Paradise town council will finalize the purchase of the Church of Christ Paradise property on 1181 Pearson road.
The property has been empty for months and town staff is interested in the nearly 5-acre property for a future fire station.
Council approved the purchase on Nov. 2, 2020, the Church of Christ property costs about $200,000.
Butte County Cal Fire Public Information Officer, John Gaddie, said Paradise has been needing a new station.
"Of course, we look at the property or in conjunction with the town of Paradise," Gaddie explained. "Cal Fire was asked 'what would provide a better location looking at to replace station 82?' so we provided that information to meet that four-minute response goal on the eastern side of Paradise."
Gaddie said he estimates Station 82, located on South Libby and Pearson roads is at least 50 years old.
At least three firefighters are staffed in that station, 24/7, according to Gaddie.
No details have been given out about construction. The town plans to use money from its general fund to purchase the plot of land.
