OROVILLE, Calif. - Former Butte College football player Lakiem Williams has signed with the Seattle Seahawks.
The linebacker is originally from Tacoma, WA.
This marks his first NFL contract. Williams went undrafted in 2020.
The linebacker played two seasons with the Roadrunners. He tallied 124 tackles in 22 games.
In the spring of 2018, Williams transferred to Syracuse University. He started all 12 games at middle linebacker as a senior in 2019.
Williams finished with 114 tackles, 4.5 sacks and forced fumble in 19 games with the Orange.
Now he has a chance to make Seattle's roster. There's extra room after the Seahawks cut defensive end Aldon Smith. Williams joins former SU teammate Alton Robinson, who is a defensive lineman.
Seattle also needed depth at the linebacker position. Both Cody Barton and Jon Rhattigan are dealing with injuries.
Williams had three tackles in the Seahawks first preseason game against the Raiders.
Their next game is Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Denver Broncos.
