Flooding continues in Shasta County, with another stormy day ahead

The storm is moving East tonight meaning more mountain snow, flood waters running high in Shasta county and more on the way for tomorrow.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Highway 299 near Bella Vista and at least 2 miles to the east, Palo Cedro and areas north to Shasta Lake.

The fire department has been doing emergency sand bagging in the Bella Vista area.

Reports of knee deep water in some areas with many neighborhood roads flooded.

Clough Creek continues to rise and is within 2 feet of overflowing Highway 299 and likely impacting a number of houses near the creek.

Many other creeks are rising and may have already flooded in the warned area.

Storm activity is expected to diminish over the next hour or so but the flooding will be slow to recede overnight in many areas.

Through the afternoon we've seen pulse-like thunderstorms firing ahead of the cold front that's moved through, within a pool of instability.

We can expect the random funnel cloud report.

Otherwise, heavy downpours and the potential for gusty winds and small hail would be more likely.

Locally heavy rainfall will continue advancing eastward toward the foothills & mountains.

Across mountain locations, the late-season winter storm is well underway with heavy snow continuing.

This could lead to a significant reduction in visibilities as well as hazardous travel.

Snow levels tonight are expected to drop to the 3,500 to 4,000 foot range early by Thursday.

Like the Valley, numerous showers will continue into Thursday with brief travel impacts where such precipitation falls.

When it is all said and done, elevations 7,000 feet and above can expect 1 to 3 feet with locally higher amounts possible.

While some showers could linger into Friday morning over northern counties (Shasta, Lassen, Tehama, and Plumas), much of the region will begin to dry out as an upstream ridge approaches.
