Shasta County, Calif.—There was a sky full of hot air balloons in eastern Shasta County Thursday afternoon.

Hot air balloonists were gathering in the community of McArthur this week for the first ever Heritage Balloon Festival.

Thursday afternoon was the first event, a balloon golf ball drop.

The pilot of the balloon named Heaven’s Quilt is Bill Glenn.

The person whose golf ball came closest to the hole was Scott Gallion of Fall River Mills.

Scott Gallion won a balloon ride over the weekend at the Inter-Mountain Fairgrounds in McArthur.

Pilots will be visiting Shasta County schools Friday.

Balloon flights are bright and early Saturday and Sunday morning at 6 a.m.
