Hat Fire: Latest numbers

Cal Fire is battling a fire off of Highway 299 and Fish Hatchery Road, northeast of Burney.

UPDATE 7:30 a.m. August 15, 2018 - The Hat Fire is now 95% contained at 1,900 acres. 


UPDATE 7:20 a.m. August 15, 2018 - Cal Fire says the Hat Fire is now 1,900 acres and 85% contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 


UPDATE August 13, 2018 - The Hat Fire that has burned since Thursday afternoon near the area of Burney on Highway 299 and Fish Hatchery Road is maintaining the acreage as of Monday afternoon at 1,900 acres with 62 percent containment.

On Sunday evening, Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity Unit lifted all the evacuations in the area.

The blaze on Thursday started less than 100 acres at 50 acres but has since grown to the current size.

Cal Fire said firefighters continue to increase and strengthen containment around the fire perimeter while mopping other areas. 

The Hat Fire has contributed to the massive amount of smoke in the area, officials said. 


SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Cal Fire is battling a 50-acre vegetation fire off of Highway 299 and Fish Hatchery Road, northeast of Burney. 

The Hat Fire is 50 acres and is zero percent contained. 

Caltrans has released that Highway 299 is closed eastbound at Cassel Road and westbound at Pit 1 Grade.
