REDDING, Calif. – Investigators have arrested two transients for arson in Redding.
The Redding Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 100 block of Hartnell Ave. Thursday.
Officials said several individuals were complaining that their offices were filling with smoke. Firefighters located a transient camp on the roof of the structure and said one of the transient’s had started a fire to stay warm.
The transient attempted to run away from firefighters but was apprehended and charged with arson, according to RFD.
During this incident, another fire had broken out on the 800 block of Browning Street. Firefighters said another transient had lit a pallet of cardboard boxes on fire.
An off-duty security guard saw what happened and was able to detain the suspect. This person was also booked into the Shasta County Jail on arson charges, said RFD.
