The first of 3 storms moved into the North State Friday afternoon and into Saturday. The main storm front has passed through now leaving 1-2 inches of more rain so far in the valley and several feet of new snow in the mountains above 5000 feet.
Storm #2 arrives on Sunday, with yet more rain... about another 1/2" up to an inch in the Valley on Sunday. Snow levels will drop to near 3000' or slightly lower. South winds will continue around 10 to 25 mph. The mountains will pick up several more feet of snow at the higher elevations from this colder system. Upper Foothill snow Monday night and Tuesday morning could be 3-6 inches, depending on elevation.
Storm #3 arrives Monday, and lingers into Tuesday. This is the coldest of the three storms, and will drop snow levels to near 2000' on Monday. Snow is likely on the Upper Paradise Ridge, and possible on the Lower Paradise Ridge. Cohasset and Forest Ranch should also see snow. The really cold air arrives Monday night, and will push snow levels very low... below 1000'! Snow is possible in Redding and maybe even down to Red Bluff early Tuesday morning, and there will be snow on the Ridge Monday night and Tuesday.
Skies will finally clear Tuesday night, and we'll see the sun return on Wednesday for most of the rest of next week. Cold air will continue to pour into the North State, so it won't warm up much in the afternoon despite all the sunshine, and the overnight lows will be frosty! Look for Valley lows dropping into the 20's Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.
Another cold storm looks to arrive for next weekend!
