UPDATE 10:30 P.M., Oct. 25, 2019 - The owner says he was horrified to find his beloved 3-year-old dog dead.
He says the killer took a member of his family - now he wants justice.
It's the sound of man's best friend.
But in this Chico neighborhood Friday- there is one less barking dog.
“It was pretty horrifying. The most unfortunate factor was that my 10-year-old daughter was with me,” said David Forsythe.
David Forsythe is talking about his 3-year-old lab-Shepard mix “Jack."
David found his best friend dead in his own backyard.
“The way that things look it looks like somebody was right there at the fence and shoved something through. he had a large puncture wound right through his chest and it looked like he lost a lot of blood,” Forsythe said.
Chico police say it happened just before 1 a.m. Friday, David’s four daughters were about to go to bed.
One of them going outside to check on their two dogs.
“The kids were getting ready for bed and she said he wasn’t coming so I went to help her. She just happened to be walking with me when I found him laying up against the fence,” Forsythe said.
Chico police say "Jack" died from a stab wound.
David says he’s scared to let his other dog out now.
"It's sad it's our own backyard it's completely fenced in. We shouldn’t be afraid of letting her out,” Forsythe said.
Neighbors shocked at the news.
“Very disturbing aggressive that’s been taken the next level,” said one neighbor, she continues to say "we all know each other on the street. We all watch for each other so this is clearly somebody who is not a part of our community. Definitely someone from the outside.”
“I just question what was going on, what lead that person to here, what the motivation. There are so many questions that arise because it's such a strange thing to do,” said Elizabeth Demahy, a woman who lives nearby.
All David can do now is hope that there is - justice for "Jack."
“You took away an important member of our family it's changed us,” Forsythe said.
David says they plan to cremate his dog jack. So far police have no suspects.
