CHICO, Calif. - Watching and playing football is a Thanksgiving staple.
There's plenty of big games this week, from the NFL to high school section championships. However, no game is more important than the Turkey Bowl.
The game is a Thanksgiving tradition for Kim Murphy and her family.
"This is our fifth annual Turkey Bowl," Murphy said. "It's just a fun morning to come hang out with family and friends."
The group starts by picking teams, a decision that can make or break their success.
"Our high school boys have played," Murphy said. "Now we have little pop warner boys who play. They all think they're the best."
The game isn't just for the young kids.
"As you can tell I break out the old jersey and put it to good use," Kevin Koschik said.
It may have been flag football, but add some tackling, throw in a sprinkle of touchdowns and a dash of interceptions and you get the perfect recipe for family fun.
The blue team was winning 5-4 after the half. Koschik gave his prediction for the final score.
"It'll be 8-5 blue," he said. "We'll let green stay in the ball game, but it's by far blue dominating the entire day."
"We're gonna make a comeback by throwing it to our best players and they're going to score touchdowns," Green Team Member Jakub Matousek said.
The green team did come back with a nice touchdown pass in the second half. The score was tied at eight, with the first to ten winning. However, the blue team had two strong touchdowns to end the game.
Blue came out with the 10-9 win, so they'll take those bragging rights to the Thanksgiving dinner table.
