CHICO, Calif. - The number of students taking classes at Chico State was down compared to 2019.

Jerry Ross, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, told Action News Now enrollment in higher education across the country dropped eight straight years.

16,164 students enrolled for the spring semester at Chico State - some 600 fewer than last year.

"Whether we can say that Cal State, Chico State is going to have a decline in enrollment for fall...it's premature for us to say that right now," Ross said.

He added that he can't give out an accurate picture quite yet, because the intent to enroll date has been pushed back to June 1, 2020.

It's usually at the beginning of May - but California State University wanted to give students more time to make a decision on which college they enroll in.
