CHICO, Calif. – An endorsement for one Chico City Councilmember has been removed from public viewing.
Wednesday afternoon, Caltrans removed a roadside electronic sign seen on eastbound Highway 32. The sign flashed the words “Elect Randall Stone.”
Councilmember Randall Stone said it was not part of his campaign. The sign was an endorsement for Stone put up by North State Builds PAC. PAC also supports Sean Morgan, Anne Schwab, and Rich Ober.
"The reason that it's out there is we're exercising our first amendment rights to express an opinion on political candidates we endorse,” said President of Northeast Building Trades Council, Andrew Meredith. “We think it's a good way to connect with voters, they're mobile, so they can be moved around pretty easily."
Caltrans officials said crews removed the electronic sign because it did not have the proper encroachment permit. The maximum size for a political endorsement sign is five feet by six feet.
