SACRAMENTO, Calif. – U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California, McGregor W. Scott, told Action News Now the FBI has dozens of open investigations on people in the state of California connected to the Capitol riots.

The FBI anticipates that within the next 24 to 48 hours they will have persons formally charged with crimes from the Eastern District of California who will be having to answer for those charges in Washington D.C., according to Attorney Scott.

The eastern district of California spans from Siskiyou to Kern counties. And as mentioned in the interview above, Scott confirms to Action News Now the persons being investigated are scattered across the entire eastern district.

With Inauguration Day less than 24 hours away, U.S. Attorney Scott also addressed safety concerns in Sacramento.

“Law enforcement here in the Sacramento region have spent amazing amounts of time and energy over the last several days, ensuring that nothing remotely close to what happened in Washington D.C. will happen here in our state Capitol.”

He added, “The bottom line is, that we as Americans must come together tomorrow for a peaceful transfer of power to the new president and his administration – as we have done throughout our history as a nation.”
