Get ready for a cold and frosty morning across Northern California for the start of your Thursday. You'll want a jacket for your way out the door this morning, but it doesn't look like you'll be needing that umbrella today. Temperatures have stayed warm enough that a hard freeze isn't an issue for the valley this morning, but frost will be something many of you have to deal with on your way out the door. Skies are partly cloudy for the start of your Thursday and clouds will be increasing through the day. Temperatures have dipped into the low 30's in the valley overnight, and into the single digits to low 20's across the mountains. Winds will be out of the North to around 10mph through your afternoon. High temperatures will end up in the same range as Wednesday. Valley areas will top out in the low 50's this afternoon, and mountain areas will end up in the 30's to low 40's later today. There will be a chance for some mountain showers popping up in the Northern Mountains and Shasta County tonight, but the remainder of our area is expected to stay dry until tomorrow.

Showers will be heading into the Coastal Range early Friday morning, and will then spread across all of Northern California by Friday afternoon. Snow levels will dip into the 2500' range on Friday and will mostly stay in that range through Sunday. The system arriving on Friday is the first of two expected to impact Northern California this weekend. Showers from the first system will ramp up through the afternoon on Friday, and will end up moderate to heavy late Friday night through early Saturday. That system will then exit off to our South and East before the next system arrives on Saturday evening. Mountain areas are expected to see more of an impact than the valley, but upwards of an inch and a half of rain will be possible in some lower elevations. There will be a chance of a mix of rain and snow returning to Redding on Sunday, but the rest of the valley will stil have rain showers. Temperatures will end up slightly cooler for your weekend. Looks like the valley could see a break from the wet weather on Moday, but mountain showers will be lingering across our region. More active weather looks likely for the middle of next week.
