Dry to end 2017, rain returns early 2018

We'll close out December 2017 on a very dry note, but some good moisture looks to return as we start the New Year

We will close out 2017 and December on a dry note! Overall, we got plenty of precip during the early part of the year, but after Summer we didn't see a lot of wet weather. The Fall and early Winter were especially dry, and we saw the fire season persist for quite a while. December 2017 saw less then 0.25" rain in the Valley, when last December we had more than 6" of rain.

For New Year's Eve temperatures will remain warm with more of the 60° weather in the Valley and the 50° afternoon temps for the Mountains/Foothills. More clouds continue to push into the region ahead of the approaching storm system. With how dry we've been, we will take all the moisture we can get and right now models indicate we should see a few days with some decent moisture returning.

The first two days of 2018 (Monday & Tuesday) will remain warm but skies still look mostly cloudy. We won't see any of the showers return to the region until the midweek forecast. We'll be a little bit cooler for Wednesday, and we should start to see some light showers work their way in from the South around 10am-12pm. We'll see more spotty shower activity throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening, but rain will become more widespread closer to Midnight and early Thursday.

Models are still indicating that we'll see a few weak waves of storms come through. I do still expect some light showers to continue into Thursday, Friday and Saturday with some drier weather for Sunday. Let's hope for some good moisture totals and see if we'll get some additional storms to start off 2018.
