The wet and active weather that made it's way through Northern California yesterday has now exited our region, and is impacting Southern California this morning. Clearing skies have resulted in cooler temperatures for most areas this morning. Winds have kept some parts of the valley along I -5 a bit warmer that the Eastern side of the valley early today. Valley areas are ranging from the 30's to low 40's early today, and mountain areas have dipped into the single digits to 20's this morning. We are expecting sunny skies, and warmer temperatures this afternoon. Valley areas will top out in the low 60's, and mountain areas are expected to end up in the 30's to high 40's later today. Winds will be the biggest impact on the area for your Tuesday, with sustained winds up to 25mph out of the North, and gusts to 35mph through this evening.

We will start out dry for most of Northern California Wednesday morning, but showers will return to the Northern Mountains by noon. Widespread rain and snow showers will then develop across the entire region on Wednesday night. Snow will be down to around 2500' at the onset of showers but will fall to around 1500' on Thursday. There is a decent chance for snow in the Redding area towards the end of the week. Late Thursday night through Friday morning will be the best chance for accumulating snow in Redding, with up to 5 inches projected to fall at the Airport. Up to a foot of snow will be possible down to 2000' from Wednesday night through early Saturday. Up to 4 feet of snow will be possible down to 3500', and up to 5 feet of snow will be possible along higher peaks. This looks like it could be one of the most impressive winter storms we've seen in years.

Showers will taper off on Saturday, but some mountain areas may still get some light precipitation. Models are currently split on mountain showers for Sunday, but at the moment we are leaning towards a dry end to your weekend. Dry weather looks more likely heading into next week.
