REDDING, Calif. -- Redding Police arrested a man on gun and drug charges after what began as a traffic stop.
On Monday, December 7, at 4:39 p.m., an officer pulled over a blue 1997 Honda Civic for a lighting violation on Canby Road near the Mt Shasta Mall.
He found that the driver, 26-year-old Devin Wyteagle Kuykendall, was on parole.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded .38 caliber handgun, methamphetamine, and heroin.
Officers say Kuykendall tossed the handgun to a woman inside the car, and told her to hide it.
Police arrested Kuykendall for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and a parole violation.
They booked him at the Shasta County Jail on the listed charges.
