WILLOWS, Calif. A driver was life-flighted to the hospital with major injuries after a crash at the Thunderhill Raceway in Glenn County Wednesday morning.

First responders arrived at the Thunderhill Raceway just before 10:30 a.m. Once on scene, they located a racecar suspended between a concrete wall and a chain-linked fence – with the driver stuck inside.

The Willows Fire Department utilized their new electronic extrication equipment to safely free the driver. Officials said the driver was then flown to Enloe Medical Center with major injuries.

On Facebook, The Willows Fire Department shared that today was the first day they put their new electric extrication tools to use.

"Up until these new pieces of equipment, we would have used our old hydraulic-powered extrication tools which requires a gas powered engine, long lines to power the hydraulics, and can act up at times. With these new tools, we can quickly, quietly, and efficiently get to work within seconds of being on scene, all with just the push of a button."
