POLICE: Drive-by shooting in Chico appears to be random act

Two pedestrians walking on West 5th St. in Chico were targets of a drive-by shooting, luckily neither was injured.

CHICO, Calif.- On Saturday, Feb 22 at around 1:17 a.m. two men were walking on West 5th St., near the intersection with Oak Street. A car stopped in the roadway ahead of them. A man in the vehicle fired a shot into the air. Moments later, he fired a second shot towards the two men before speeding off, according to Chico Police.

Neighbors in the area told Action News Now, they're concerned for their safety. 

Eddie Zavala was close by when it happened early Saturday morning.
"We saw these two guys running and we’re worried because we heard more gunshots and they’re like running." Zavala said. 

Another neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous said, “I’m really concerned because I live here and hopefully this doesn’t happen again, I’m not really sure how to react.”

Neither of the two men on the sidewalk were hurt. Officers closed W. 5th St. between Oak and Ash Streets for a short period of time while investigators processed the scene.

No motive has been released, and police say they are investigating this as a random act. The vehicle was described as a white smaller sedan.
