REDDING, Calif. - Redding Fire Department responded to a shed fire Tuesday morning at McElroy Lane.
The residence had converted a shed into a dwelling and fire investigators found a makeshift wood stove used for heating as the cause of the fire.
The person living inside the shed was asleep at the time of the fire but managed to make it out unharmed. However, a dog that was also in the shed did not make it out. An estimated $1,000 of damage was reported.
Firefighters want to remind the community residents that outbuildings are not made to house. There were no sprinklers, smoke detectors, or drywall to stop the spread of the fire.
The fire was promptly taken care of by the crew on scene and they spent an hour total to clean up and give the dog a burial.
