CHICO, Calif. – The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 68-year-old man who was last seen in Chico.

Mark Baumgartner of Orland was last seen on Friday, May 15, at the Safari Inn Motel in Chico. Officers said Baumgartner rode with a friend to Chico for a VA clinic appointment and requested to be dropped off at the motel in Chico afterward.

A representative from the Veteran’s Clinic called to report him missing when he failed to respond to a tele-appointment on Tuesday, May 19.

Investigators said they learned Baumgartner checked out of the Safari Inn on Monday and is believed to have left on foot, in an unknown direction. He was last seen wearing a maroon-colored shirt, blue jeans, and an army veteran hat. He is a Vietnam veteran and suffers from PTSD and other serious health conditions.

Deputies also said they have contacted Baumgartner in the past regarding mental health-related issues. Investigators said his home in Glenn County has been checked and it doesn’t appear he has been home since.

Anyone with information is asking to contact the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Task Force at 530-934-6431.
