BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A man was taken into custody after leading deputies on a chase in the Thermalito and Oroville area, according to Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Butte County Sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop to a vehicle with a code violation on Myers St. in Oroville.

The driver, later identified as 36-year-old David Shields, slowed down but then sped off from the deputy.

Shields then turned onto Keko St. in Thermalito which is a dead-end. At this point, Shields took off running before deputies were able to take him into custody.

After an investigation, Shields was found to have a felony arrest warrant out of Tehama County. Deputies also found methamphetamine and marijuana.

A loaded firearm was found in the vehicle and Shields was booked into the Butte County Jail.

He is facing multiple charges including evading a police officer with disregard to public safety, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition and a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance.
