BURNEY, Calif. – One man is in jail after a fight broke out between two roommates over chainsaws.

Shasta County Sheriff’s deputies said they were called to a home on 37000 block of Bue Way, in Burney after reports of shots fired.

Deputies said they found two men; roommates, who had been fighting over two chainsaws. Gary Howard reported his 38-year-old roommate, Larry Holdaway, fired a rifle at him.

Once on scene, deputies surrounded the house and ordered Holdaway to come out with his hands above his head. Holdaway, who is a previously convicted felon came out without incident.

Through investigation, deputies say they learned that Holdaway fired one round from a rifle towards Howards feet while they were both inside the home.

Holdaway agreed to a search of his home after informing deputies of where he kept the rifle. The rifle was seized as evidence, according to the sheriff’s office. Holdaway was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
