CHICO, Calif. – A beloved cupcake shop in downtown Chico has announced it's shutting its doors.
Denine’s Cupcakes took to Facebook to share the news Sunday. “I am sorry to say that I have to say goodbye to downtown Chico. Our lease is up, we negotiated with our landlady and we could not come to an agreement. I simply cannot keep up with the ratio of monthly overhead. It’s very black and white and numbers do not lie.”
14 years ago, owner of “Denine’s Cupcakes,” Denine Owen won a contest for "best cupcake in America" by Good Morning America.
“I have always said that I must have the very best job in all of Chico,” Denine shared on Sunday. “Cupcakes make people happy. It’s that simple.”
Denine said they must be vacated by Aug. 16. Those interested in getting cupcakes before doors are closed can message them on Facebook.
The owners ended their message saying they're not sure what's next but made it clear that baking is never out of the picture. "When there's a will, there's away," Owen shared.
